Discover
Tuscany

Tuscany is located on the Northwestern coast of Italy, surrounded by towering mountains. The birthplace of the Renaissance, Tuscany has been a cultural hub for centuries and is not only home to famous art and architecture, but also home to some of the world’s best wines and most loved Italian meals.

What’s there?

With their breathtaking landscapes, the historic cities of Tuscany attract hundreds of thousands of tourists every year while still supporting their own sizeable populations.

Florence:

The population of Florence is 370,092, which is similar in size to New Orleans.

Siena:

With a population of 250,740, Siena is roughly the size of Orlando.

Tourists come for the art and architecture of Tuscany, and with numerous churches, museums, and historic sites, there is plenty to see.

Tuscan HISTORY

The history of Tuscany is so ancient it begins well before the Romans. As time marched on, various empires and countries controlled the land, until it eventually became one of Italy’s immensely powerful and influential city-states centered around its capital, Florence.

It is here that the Medici family came to power and kept their influence over the city for generations. Members of the family continued to rise through the ranks of society, with one even becoming Pope. Through cunning and violence, the power of Florence continued to grow until it formally became a part of the Republic of Italy in 1860, serving as the Italian capital until it was replaced by Rome six years later.

FOOD & WINE

Food

Tuscan food is known and loved for its wonderfully rustic, simple ingredients and robust flavors. Rich seasonings and sauces are prominently featured, as well as the traditional wide Pappardelle pasta.

Wine

Home to some of the best vineyards in the world, Tuscany is the birthplace of many well-known wines, such as Chianti. Believing that wine and food are enjoyed best together, the wines of Tuscany often complement the regional tastes. In keeping with this Italian tradition, we feature wines like Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico and the Castello del Poggio Moscato that pair well with our Tuscan inspired dishes.
