OLIVE GARDEN LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE EN ESPAÑOL

ORLANDO, Fla. –Olive Garden continues to extend its reach to the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population with the launch of www.olivegardenespanol.com, a new, stand-alone Spanish-language Web site, on Aug. 28.

The new site, designed to be an extension of the in-restaurant experience, addresses the language needs of Spanish-speaking guests and is the most extensive Spanish-language site among casual dining restaurant companies.

“Like our other communications tailored to Hispanic guests, the new Web site conveys the messages of warmth and Italian generosity in a way that is culturally appropriate,” said John Caron, executive vice president of marketing for Olive Garden.  “We are excited to share our passion for Italy and the genuine Italian dining experience with an even broader audience.”

Like its English-language counterpart, olivegardenespanol.com offers a variety of resources, including a locator for restaurants in the U.S. and Canada; lunch, dinner and beverage menus complete with color photography of all offerings; employment and company information; and, for the at-home chef, a variety of step-by-step Italian recipes, including some from Olive Garden’s menu.

While the Hispanic site is comparable in features to olivegarden.com, it is also unique for this segment.  Special attention was paid to the language translation to ensure that it resonates with U.S. Hispanics, regardless of their country of origin, making it culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate.

“Olive Garden took a holistic approach to its site redesign and created an online program that is truly a benefit to its Spanish-speaking guests,” said Lee Vann, founder of the San Diego-based Captura Group, the agency that partnered with Olive Garden to develop the site.  “This is a reflection of the company’s corporate philosophy and the value it places on diversity and the Hispanic community.”

The new Web site is part of Olive Garden’s overall Hispanic marketing effort, which also includes television advertising in 11 U.S. markets.  To view a Spanish-language commercial, visit the new site at www.olivegardenespanol.com.

Olive Garden is the leading restaurant in the Italian dining segment with 582 restaurants, 70,000 employees and $2.6 billion in annual sales.  Olive Garden is a division of Darden Restaurants Inc. (NYSE:DRI), the world’s largest casual dining company.
